I went to Japan on a business trip back in April, and I’m finally posting photos from it!

Business trip to Japan! part 2

Got up early and off to Tsukiji for breakfast again! One note to anyone who plans on going to Tsukiji fish market, the fish market is closed on Wednesdays and many restaurants are closed  in the area on Wednesdays. I did not know this… so we had to wander around for a bit to find an open restaurant… but we found one!

Unfortunately I can’t remember the name of this restaurant. I say “unfortunately” because without the name, I can’t warn people who don’t like cigarette smoke where not to go. Their sushi was pretty good BUT they’d let people SMOKE inside their tiny restaurant. A group of people started smoking when we were almost done. I know many restaurants still have smoking seats in Japan, and I don’t actually give smokers a hard time if it’s at a bar or izakaya. But come on, it’s a sushi restaurant. Can you imagine eating fresh sushi while inhaling cigarette smoke? Anyway, if you do mind cigarette smoke in a restaurant, make sure to ask for a non-smoking seating. (But sometimes you may end up sitting right next to the smoking section.) If you’re going to an Izakaya or bar, the chances you’ll find a 100% non-smoking place is close to 0 in Japan.

The second morning, we got up super early again and decided to go to Sushi Dai. I wrote about our visit to this place when Derek and I went to Japan back in 2010. This time we got there by cab. If you get there before the trains start running, there’s almost no line at the restaurant.

Back again... Call this place a "hype" or "touristy" all you want (I was skeptical before I visited this place too) but their personable service and their amazing sushi keep making me want to come back here.

Gotta get me one of those tea cups from a sushi place. They're so thick that it keeps the tea hot for a very long time.

Let's start with Oo Toro (Fatty Tuna), shall we?

Time passes so fast! 2012 is already half over.

A lot of stuff has been happening non-stop, and I should really write posts about it AS IT HAPPENS.

In April I went to Japan on a business trip right after PAX East. I was in meetings pretty much everyday, but I did take a lot of photos of food & hi-tech toilets. So I thought I’d share them.

WARNING: There’ll be tons of photos on this post.

You can see all the photos on my flickr, Business trip to Japan 2012 set!

Due to the fog, my flight from SD to LAX was delayed about 3 hours. We were all told that they had checked all of our connecting flights and no one would be affected, so we waited.

While I was waiting at the airport I got a call from Derek telling me that he locked himself out.

I had to wish him luck because it was finally time to get on the plane. (He told me later that he had his own adventure involving some Jackie Chan stunt. But in the end, he got in.)

Some of you who follow me on Twitter might know this but one of my favorite iOS games is Sword & Sworcery EP (available for iOS, Steam, Mac OS and Linux!) by superbrothers. I like it so much that I made a life-size Wolfmother plush for their A/V jam. (I’m still fixing her so she’s ready for to be adopted by her creator. I’m paying for the rushed half-assed job I did… It would’ve saved me a lot of time if I made it right in the first place. Kids, don’t be like me!)

On June 21st this beautiful game made it its way into Japan with the title SUKIMUSU and just in the time for the summer solstice! To celebrate such an amazing event, I had to make a bento.

Created and eaten on: 6/20/2012

I’m horrible at describing games, but if you like point-and-click adventure games with beautiful sound, an amazing story and a wonderful world of pixelated art then you will LOVE this game.

PAX East 2012 photos!

June 24, 2012

in Blog,PAX

For every PAX, I’ve written detailed blog posts about each panel Derek and I attended and what we did, saw, discovered, ate, etc… But due to my business trip to Japan right after PAX East I totally missed the opportunity to do it this time due to my business trip to Japan right after PAX East. But that doesn’t mean this PAX East wasn’t memorable or anything like that at all. In fact, super awesome stuff happened. Check out these blog posts to read more about it.

stuffed stuff: Ushanka hat (Castle Crashers bear hat)

stuffed stuff: Knights from Castle Crashers

stuffed stuff: Anklegator from Bastion

The rest of PAX East was also awesome. To prove it, I have tons of photos from PAX East which it’d be a waste not to share with you…

So here are photos and some videos from PAX East. WARNING: This post will be super photo heavy.
