people and their best friends

Before I go back to regular blogging, there’s something I wanted to say.

Cats are awesome. I love any animals, but especially cats.

They leave me alone when I want them to and they come around when I want them to. They also come around when I want to be left alone and they’re asleep somewhere when I want them by me.

Kitty litho

Something I printed in a lithography class in an art school about 10 years ago when I had four cats living with me.

Here are some links to support those who are in needs in Japan, both people and their best friends.

- The Japanese Red Cross Society
The Japanese Red Cross Society is working directly in Japan to help those impacted by the Sendai earthquake. Google created a page so it’s easier to donate from outside Japan. Note that the donation amount is in YEN. (2000 yen is approximately 25 US dollars.)
*You can only wire transfer money from a bank on the official Japanese Red Cross site. If you wish to do so, you can do it from the official Japanese Japanese Society site under “Emergency Relief.”

- Animal Refuge Kansai

A non-profit organization, Animal Refuge Kansai is helping rescued animals from the earthquake in Japan to find an owner and a new owner. You can make donation to support them help animals in needs via paypal. (The site is available in English and Japanese)

WARNING: For real cat owners only (if you never had a cat, it might gross you out.)

Kitty litho 2

The second layer of the print. You can insert texts in the word bubble above the poor mousey if you'd like. (BTW, this is NOT what my place looks like!)

Yup, they are awesome.

I should make “awesome cats” tag.

Now back to blogging…

Hi Anna,
Thanks for posting about Japanese Red Cross Society and ARK. I’ve been trying to spread the word about ARK on my blog too :) With all the experience they’ve had from helping animals in the Hanshin earthquake aftermath I believe they are a really fantastic charity to support.
Thank you for sharing the google link to JRCS, I wanted to donate to them before as NHK world news favored them, but there wasn’t an accessible way to donate. Bank transfers can be expensive, charging very high fees ($20+) just to make the transfer.

Hi Mollybot,
Thank you for the comment! I do a lot of research before putting the links on my blog because I know that not all donations are actually going to be used to help the situation in Japan. I’ve seen a list of many big corporations which made donations to support Japan, but only a handful of banks and companies are waiving wire transfer fees for customers sending money to affected individuals or agencies in Japan.

If only more banks and credit card companies knew that waiving wire transfer fees would be so helpful… And I found out about ARK recently, and as a pet owner, I felt like I had to spread the word about them. I understand many people have mixed feelings about it while countless people are still in need for all the help and support they can get, but I’m very glad that you’re doing something for ARK. Animals can’t say “help” on their own and they need more people like you.
