Bento #84: Hetalia

I found out about Hetalia Axis Powers a couple of years ago when it came out in Japan. Hetalia is a comedy show with pretty boys and each of them represents a country. I first saw the anime version, and read a little bit of manga. I thought it was really funny and asked my friends to check it out, but it wasn’t subbed in English yet, so most of them thought it was just a pretty boy show and didn’t really pay attention. The show was still too new to be available in the U.S. in either raw or fansubbed form, so I couldn’t even watch later episodes. Then a little later, fansubbed Hetalia episodes started floating around online and it exploded in the U.S.

Anyway I just remade the bento that Italy made for Germany. (yes, each character is named after their home country) Since Derek doesn’t really know much about Hetalia, I made this one for myself. You can see a lot of details of the bento in the episode, so it was pretty easy.

The bento was supposedly “made with Germany’s favorite food, with a help from Japan”, so I guessed the potato and bacon is German potato, and the rest are string beans, edamame, lettuce, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, and sausage (hot dog). It was fun to recreate the bento from the show but I couldn’t make it as cute as the original one. Also I didn’t wrap the hair around the rice balls so from different angles they look bald. :P

I am NOT going to enter the bento the contest though. I just copied this bento from the show anyway, not to mention that I DON’T HAVE A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT. (gasp!)

But best of luck to the other Hetalia fans!

Awesome bento and great replication of the anime version! It looks delicious! But I must ask, will you ever do Italy with his pasta?

Come ooon, enter! The bento looks great, and I bet lots of people will try to make a version of this bento, HOWEVER, none of them will be as good as yours!

Or at least make another one to enter :(

Aw thank you! I don’t think I’m fan enough. :P Besides, I really don’t have a facebook account, and I’m planning on having one anytime soon. I can’t wait to see Hetalia themed bentos though!
