On the last day at PAX Prime 2010, it was 53 degrees in Seattle. We were so glad that our first panel was inside our hotel.
Blamimations ALIVE! with Kris and Scott, 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Again with Kris Straub and Scott Kurtz! They weren’t drunk but still funny.
They showed us a recent one of their Blamimations, which is the hilarious flash cartoon by them. Some materials might not be family friendly, but if you’re a fan of Hell’s Kitchen and a certain angry British chef like us, check out 5 min 25 sec in of Blamimation Episode 8! (I also like the Dog Whisperer parody before that too)
We came back to our hotel room and packed our stuff. Then we found out that the hotel would keep our luggage in the room by the lobby only until 6:00, but the closing ceremony and Omegathon final round was from 5:30 ~ 6:00 at the main hall a few blocks away from the hotel… We asked Enforcers (official PAX staff) if we could take the suitcases inside the main hall and they said no. =/
We were little bummed out but there was no time to waste! We decided to use the extra time to explore the Expo Hall as much as possible! Which means it’s photo time! (The photos were taken during the course of 3 days)
I’ll post some highlights of PAX first.
I visited the Behemoth booth with tons of gifts! One of the plush gifts was the raccoonlope (raccoon crossed with an antelope) thing from the Behemoth’s new game, BattleBlock Theater!
It’s not just a plush, it’s a hand puppet! Dan Paladin (the artistic genius behind Alien Hominid, Castle Crashers and BattleBlock Theater) couldn’t resist sticking his hand in it… before I could warn him.
(You can see the slightly better quality photos used for this gif on my flickr)
I’ll do a stuffed stuff blog post about this guy later, but for now, more photos from PAX Prime!
My friend made this Castle Crashers doujinshi (fan comic book) called "Guardian Crashers" in 2008. So I asked her to send me some copies, gave a copy to Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp, and got some autographed for my friend! (It's not the dirty kind of doujinshi, by the way)
I got all the photos of Castle Crashers & BattleBlock Theater themed bento signed by Dan Paladin! And I gave a copy of the photos of each bento to them too!
We couldn’t get into the concert on Saturday night, but I got to meet Jonathan Coulton (a.k.a JoCo) the next day! He is the writer and performer of the greatest game song ever, “Still Alive” from Portal. He looked confused by the photo at first, but as soon he realized what it was, he was showing it to Paul & Storm who were sitting next to him. I got a bit embarrassed when they gave me an applause. I’m shy!
I'm sure he's tired of meeting Portal fans by now. But hey, he also lives in Brooklyn, yet I had to travel all the way to Seattle to get his autograph... So we're even. And I also gave him a copy of the photo of Portal bento.
JoCo: “Wow, who did you make this for?”
Me: “My boyfriend.” (pointing at my boyfriend who was standing next to me.)
JoCo: “That’s nice.” (with a gentle smile) “My wife doesn’t even speak to me.”
He has such a great sense of humor.
Jonathan Coulton and Paul & Storm’s concert is really hard to get into but hopefully we get to see them at PAX East next year. (If they attend that is.)
Before I post more photos, I want to mention this game called Kung-Fu Live. It’s an upcoming PSN PlayStation Eye-powered game. “A beat’em up adventure featuring YOU as the hero.”
You can’t take this game too seriously though. You do look like you’re poorly photoshopped onto the screen, but that makes it even funnier. Also, you have to keep looking at the monitor while you do the moves, so you in the game looks like you’re looking to your right or to left while punching and kicking someone. I think this game isn’t something you compare to Kinect games like many do. The cheesy look (in a good way) and dramatic combo are the right style for an old-school side scrolling fighting game like this one. (besides, I hear it’s going to be under $15.)
It’s probably hard to understand with my explanation, so here’s a video of this enthusiastic gentleman playing it.
Apparently there’s a story mode where you do the instructed poses and then you will be inserted into a story book within the game. Here’s the video from their official website. For more info for this game, go to KungFuLiveGame.com
Okay now let’s move onto the photos! Lots of photos!!
This is a cosplay of Dastan from Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sand movie (Dastan was played by Jake Gyllenhaal) and not from the game, but it's still probably the best Prince of Persia cosplay I've ever seen!
After 13 years, Duke Nukem Forever was officially announced by 2K Games to be in development at PAX Prime! Unfortunately, the line was 4 hours long so we couldn't check it out. =/
Portal 2 - They had a small room where they showed game play of the co-op mode from Portal 2. The co-op robots (seen on the side of the booth) were super adorable!
Samus Aran's Zero suit at Metroid: Other M booth. Very sexy but the mannequin inside needs to be more like a real woman who can kick some Metroid's butt.
Epic Mickey booth was indeed epic. They had two gigantic booth spaces with bunch of huge white screens stacked & scattered everywhere.
Little Big Planet 2 - They had cute LBP plush dolls for sale, but they were sold out on the third day. =(
The table at LBP2 booth was made with cardboard! It looked like it came straight out of the game. How cute is that??
The Dead Space 2 demo has a monster that throws up toxic puke on you and packs of creepy naked monster children.
Dead Space 2 - I thought this was an awesome & hilarious promotion. You have to play Dead Space to understand how funny this is. The comic inside the booklet is very CHICK-esque too.
Halo Reach - My boyfriend playing! They were giving a free avatar items for the people who played the game.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - My boyfriend got to play this, and loved it! Besides the gigantic flat screen monitor hanging from the ceiling and the one in front of me, they had sixteen 32-inch (we think) flat screen TVs for demo. O_O
inFamous 2- My boyfriend got to play the demo but it seemed a lot like the first one. In the end of demo, it forces you to go crazy on innocent civilians for some reason.
...and we were at the airport in Seattle. Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb were in the same restaurant, waiting for their flight. I probably would've geeked out if it was 7 years ago. (sighs)
We got home around 6:00AM, and took a nap. When we woke up we felt like PAX Prime was some kind of awesome dream.
There was tons of schwag. We didn’t try hard to get free stuff but here’s what we got.
Dance Central towel, a button from Super Scribblenauts, End of Nations T-shirt, Okamiden silly bands, Dragon Age 2 inflatable sword, Marvel vs Capcom T-shirt, Buttons from the Behemoth booth, Duke Nukem tanktop, Dragon Age 2 hotel key card
We got a Dance Central towel because my boyfriend danced in public! There’s a video of it somewhere… End of Nations T-shirt (the black shirt that says “the end is near”) was 3XL!! I might make a dress out of it. Marvel vs Capcom T-shirt is cute. Each panel has a Marvel and Capcom character. The Duke Nukem tanktop is absolutely ridiculous. It’s non-stretchy oversized tank top and it says “Hail to the King, Baby!” on the back. Only Duke Nukem or a bodybuilder without shame can wear it. I’m going to remake this into something wearable.
I really wanted the Portal 2 shirt though… The design looked really nice. I heard that they ran out of the shirts on the second day. =/ I hope they bring them for PAX East!
And these are some things I bought at PAX Prime 2010!
PAX Prime exclusive T-shirt, BattleBlock Theater T-shirt, PAX 2010 exclusive T-shirt and Poking chicken T-shirt by the Behemoth
I pretty much went to the Behemoth booth and said "One of each." Got squishy chickens, cellphone charms, key chains and figures. (the T-shirt is for my friend who made the fan comic book)
These Animal Orb Cellphone Charms are so cute.
Not in the photos but I got some duplicates so I can actually use them. Because you see, the first set is, ahem, for the collection.
The next PAX is PAX East, roughly 6 months away. I hear the convention center is much bigger than the last one, and we already can’t wait!!
There are more pictures I didn’t post on my blog, so for more pictures of PAX Prime 2010, visit PAX Prime 2010 set and Make a Strip Live! set on my flickr page.

Looks like you had LOADS of fun! Too bad I live in Vancouver and the tickets are probably very expensive…But thanks for sharing the pics!
Long time lurker, first time commenting
I’m a big fan of your bentos (and the rabbid cookies? Love ‘em!) I am from Wisconsin, and also attended PAXprime this year. It looks like you did loads more than I did! The Tron booth WAS sexy! My favorite was the Little Big Planet 2 game, and the Nintendo Kirby Epic Yarn game. It’s kind of cool that there is a possibility that we passed each other in all of the lines. Keep up your awesome blog!
I will buy the duke nukem tank depending on size!!! email me back
