When I was making bento #9 Mini-moose bento, it was difficult to work with the hamburg (Japanese style) with sauce, because I had to be really careful not to let the sauce get the food around it. But then, I realized that I’ve seen the “meat with sauce dripping” mess somewhere before.
Bento#13: Nausicaa God Warrior vs Ohmu
Created and eaten on: 10/16/2008
As I’ve written in the post of bento #8 Ohmu bento, I’m a huge fan of “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.”
At the climax of the film, a God Warrior (“Kyoshinhei” in Japanese) is brought to stop the enraged Ohmu stampede. But the God Warrior is awakened too soon and its flesh and skin start to melt. In the story of Nausicaa, God Warriors are biological weapons used in the ancient war in. But because the God Warrior, which was “created by humans for wars” is forced to kill Ohmus, this is probably the saddest scene to watch, and that’s why I wanted to make this bento.
I put a bit of curry powder in the rice to create a “meadow of gold.” And I used enoki mushroom in the background, because it always reminded me of spores in the Sea of Decay. I’ve made Ohmu before, so I just had to scale it down to fit more Ohmus. I shaped ground beef, made a Japanese style hamburg, put sauce on it and I put teeth and eyes on it. I put fake sausage (fish cake) flowers at the bottom to add some color.
Maybe because this is also a Nausicaa themed bento, but this is also one of my favorite bento. I made this bento mainly for myself, so I was honestly surprised and happy that a lot of people actually liked it. (I really thought people would find it creepy.
)

I’m not sure if I could make another Nausicaa themed bento, since I’ve done two Ohmu themed bento… but I’m sure I’ll find an excuse to make it again.
Ohmu:
- potato salad wrapped with lettuce
- red pepper for its eyes
- asparagus for its feet
God Warrior:
- Japanese style hamburg with shiitake
- kamaboko (fish cake) for its teeth
- cheese and lettuce for its eyes
Flowers:
- fake sausage (fish cake) with corn
Other food:
- rice with curry powder
- enoki mushroom
- lettuce
