Today (11/11) is apparently International Pocky day!
Yay, Pocky!
Well, I’ve been meaning to do this blog for the past 3 months, but then my day job has gotten in the way,,,
Anyway, better late than never, so I’ll start blogging today.
I’ve been into making bento (“lunch box” in Japanese) recently, and I’m actually having a lot of fun with it. Here is my first attempt to make “something” with food.
Bento #1: Totoro (from My Neighbor Totoro)
Created and eaten on: 9/11/2008
Yes, it’s an overweight Totoro, and looks like he’s about to cry. I made this exactly two months ago, and I’ve gotten better now. (I think) I’m so embarrassed by this bento that I wasn’t sure if I really wanted to post it. But whenever I look at it, it always makes me realize that “if you suck at something, keep doing it. You’ll get better at it eventually!”
But yeah, he is definitely not my neighbor…
Totoro:
body – rice (brown part is rice mixed with bonito flakes and soy sauce)
eyes – seaweed on fishcake
other food:
- left over noodle, broccoli, egg, fish cake sausage, baby corn
For more pictures of my bento, visit “Bento!” set and “Bento details!” set on my flickr page.

I just wanted to let you know that I found your blog today and read all of your posts! I tried making egg sheet sunflowers just now, and they came out really well! Thanks a lot for posting; you’ve inspired me.
Dear Anna! Your posts are very interesting and they inspired me to make my first bento yesterday. Guess who was the main hero? Totoro! I love this charming creature so much. He looked muck alike your first Totoro ^_^
Just wanted to say, you’re wonderful! Thank you so much!
